The Weekly Dig

I can't believe it is Monday again! Seems like time really flies once it hits December and before we know it, it will be the start of a new year. As you may or may not know, we are expecting here on Simplestead! A little girl will join us in March so things are mainly all baby here. But our budding curiosity for knowledge never lets up, so here are a few things we are digging this week:

Looking for alternative and outdoorsy options for a diaper bag. We think we've found the perfect solution here.

Anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Winter issue of Taproot.

Bushcraft anyone?

Have a great week everyone!

Weekly Dig

The weeks seem to be flying by lately. I can't believe it is Monday again. It is a rainy cool day here and we have all the windows open to let that crisp Fall air sweep through the house.
Instead of a list of things we dig this week, I have a collection of photos from the week of our parent's chickens because yes, we dig chickens and I especially dig the Silkies they now have. It is amazing how small they are but really tend to hold their own with the rest of the flock. All their feathers are intact and they do not take any guff from any of the other chickens. If only we could have a small flock of chickens at the condo. We have been tempted many times to "see how it would work out or if anyone would really notice or say anything". Even just two laying hens would be nice. But I am not sure about Waukesha's chicken ordinances. A couple can still dream though. But at least we can visit these lovies whenever we want.

Weekly Dig

Take two of the Weekly Dig! The season is winding down, the temps are getting cooler, our schedules are starting to free up again. Jake and I are actually looking forward to Autumn. It is s time to slow down and enjoy the harvest!

We often joke about when we have kids that they will be "free range babies". However there is some truth to that. Lucky for us this blog is a great resource on tips and issues for raising your kids.

We've been craving pie around here. I want to get my hands on Ashley English's book A Year of Pies so I can have pie on hand and make my house smell delicious.

Will Allen continues to be one of Jake's heroes.  Bringing food to food deserts is his newest endeavor.

Did you know that the nutrition in vegetables is a large part due to the soil it is grown in?  And now because of soil depletion our vegetables are losing that.

Weekly Dig

Happy Monday everyone! We hope you are digging the new blog layout. I want to introduce to you the Weekly Dig, a post every Monday (or almost every Monday) about a short list of things that have caught our attention the last week. We hope you get inspired and enjoy!

* Really digging the folks, resources and info at Eating Local Waukesha
* We love permaculture, and now there is a monthly permies journal for kids.
* A simple magazine for a simple life. I stumbles across this magazine by Mollie Makes. There is a sneak peek of the first issue here!
* Too many cherry tomatoes makes for a sweet and savory salad recipe.
